The foundation was officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (CAC) on February 5, 2023. Our Vision
To become the best synergetic brand in building societies involving women, where discipline, self-reliance, leadership and good governance thrive.
Our Mission
Our purpose is to provide women and communities with psychological re-orientation and empowerment through agricultural value-chain by means of advocacy, sensitisation, training, grants, socio-economic development and identity integration.
Advocacy
To advocate for women's inclusion in economic interventions for gender equity and to acknowledge their contributions to economic growth and development, we involve the authorities. If the international community and local authorities build on the contributions made by women and take action to reduce their constraints, the efforts towards achieving the goals for agricultural development, economic growth, and food security will be strengthened and further accelerated.
Re-orientation
To build a more optimistic and welcoming society, we work to alter our attitudes, convictions, and actions. In the process, negative cultural norms and practices may be contested, tolerance and respect may be encouraged, and a common sense of accountability for social concerns may be fostered. It is an important goal because it can support the development of more inclusive and sustainable societies, lessen prejudice and violence, and increase social cohesiveness. By opposing prejudice and discrimination, advancing diversity and inclusivity, and establishing forums for discussion and introspection, the MIA Foundation seeks to encourage re-orientation.
Emergency and Humanitarian Responses
Our goal in providing humanitarian aid and activities is to alleviate suffering brought on by emergencies or to provide relief in accordance with other seasonal requirements. Our actions are motivated by the knowledge that helping one another through adversity can help one succeed both here on earth and in the afterlife, rather than by political, economic, or military goals.
Entrepreneurship Development
MIA Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Development programme is designed to support women-led micro and small businesses, helping them grow into established enterprises. Through entrepreneurship training, skills acquisition, and agricultural value-chain activities, we aim to drive economic growth and create job opportunities in our communities.
Empowerment
Empowerment is a major goal for the MIA Foundation because it helps promote social justice, lessen inequality, and build stronger, more independent communities. The foundation also strives to empower underprivileged and marginalised women and facilitating the formation of small and medium scale enterprises for our women after capacity building. Hence we foster ownership and facilitation of resources and other supports needed.
We are unique because the idea and subsequent founding of the Mata Iyayen Al’umma Foundation in 2022 were inspired by our unwavering commitment to improving the lives of grassroots women and other disadvantaged individuals. We started out small and originally known as a Multipurpose Development Cooperative Society Limited, the society grows and processes a wide range of agricultural commodities, including rice, groundnuts, soybeans, oils and onions. Other members are into poultry, fishery and animal husbandry. Some members are also engaged in the crafts of knitting, garment making, incense making, catering services, and more. The cooperative was established by Hajiya Farida Tahir in Rangaza, a rural community in Ungogo local government area of Kano state in 2002. It originated as a self-help group (SHG) for women comprising ten individuals drawn from multiple families. Eventually, it extended to incorporate residents from other local government areas, such as Municipal, Fagge, Dala, Kumbotso, Tarauni, and Nassarawa.
These community women have an entrepreneurial culture with enormous growth potential, but without the needed resources and other basic techniques to grow their enterprises and improve their livelihoods. Obstacles ranging from lack of knowledge of contemporary production, processing, packaging, market network, access to capital, bank accounts and business management techniques. For these reasons, we had to encourage collaborations among them, convinced the women to band together, open up channels for group contacts, reap benefits from one another, and eventually draw in community development initiatives. But as of 2008, the group’s membership grew to 5000 people throughout the state, leading to the creation of the name “Mata Iyayen Al’umma”. 2009 saw the official registration of all the groups as main societies with the State Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry. Moreover, “Mata Iyayen Al’umma Cooperative, Credit and Marketing Union Limited” was founded on May 19, 2017. Many more primary societies from across the state became members of the union as a result of its programmes, which included group farming, trade shows, capacity-building workshops, trade visits, funding access, and export initiatives.
Women, in our opinion, are the foundation of families and communities. They are crucial to the upbringing of children because they give their families love, support, and care. As a result, they frequently assume leadership positions in community organisations and play important roles in fostering community. Our capacity to bring about long-lasting and sustainable change is what will enable us to empower people. Empowered women and communities are more equipped to recognise their own needs and goals, create solutions that suit them, and act to put those solutions into practice. Enhancing involvement, fostering trust, and fostering a more inclusive and equal society are all possible outcomes of empowerment.
Mata Iyayen Al’umma Foundation works to uplift women and communities by fostering mindset transformation, championing empowerment in agricultural value chain, and driving advocacy that promotes inclusive development
